Tie Guan Yin
Tie Guan Yin
A long time ago, there was a devout tea farmer who would bring his picked tea leaves to the Guan Yin Temple in the mountains every morning to burn incense and pray. He would then sit in the temple to drink tea and talk to Guan Yin Bodhisattva about his wishes and concerns.
Year after year, the tea farmer carefully tended to his small tea garden, but he could never grow good tea. One night, Guan Yin Bodhisattva appeared in a dream and said to the tea farmer, "You burn incense and offer sacrifices every day, and your heart will be effective if you are sincere."
Upon waking, the tea farmer felt that the dream was magical and beautiful. He continued to bring tea leaves to the temple to burn incense and drink tea, hoping to receive the blessing of Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Day after day, one day, the tea farmer suddenly discovered that the tea he planted had undergone a wonderful change. These tea leaves were iron blue in color, exuded a unique orchid fragrance, and tasted sweet and mellow.
The tea farmer was ecstatic, thinking that this was Guan Yin Bodhisattva's response and blessing to his piety. He knew that this tea was hard-won and was a gift from Guan Yin Bodhisattva, so he named this tea "Tie Guan Yin." This tea is not only dark in color and shaped like Guan Yin sitting on a lotus but also symbolizes the wonderful feeling of drinking tea with Guan Yin Bodhisattva. It is full of the charm of compassion and wisdom.
